
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The East Potomac Golf Course will host a fun-filled day of free golf activities during the PGA Play Golf America Day, Saturday, June 21, from noon to 4:00 p.m. The free event, coordinated by the Middle Atlantic PGA Section, is open to the public and people with disabilities are specifically encouraged to attend and participate in the activities.
PGA Honorary Member and 2008 Distinguished Service Award winner Dennis Walters, a nationally renowned golf trick-shot artist, will perform at 2:00 p.m. with great golf and fun, while sharing his inspiring personal story of triumph over an accident that left him paralyzed below the waist 34 years ago. The program will also feature free lessons and golf clinics taught by PGA Professionals from throughout the Middle Atlantic PGA Section.
Wounded warriors who have participated in the PGA of America/Disabled Sports USA Military Golf Program at Olney Golf Park, along with Special Olympic athletes from the DC area have been invited to attend and participate in the day's activities.
As The PGA of America continues to diversify the game of golf, one of the primary target markets is individuals with disabilities. The Play Golf America Web site features a resource section for individuals with disabilities, including a search engine to locate PGA Professionals with experience providing instruction to those with disabilities.
Created to showcase the game of golf in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, PGA Play Golf America Days are presented by The PGA of America with presenting sponsors American Express, Buick and The Royal Bank of Scotland. The event is designed to provide free expert instruction to golfers of all ages and skill levels, introduce new golfers to the game and provide equipment testing from the best brands in golf today.
A total of 90 PGA Play Golf America Days are scheduled for 2008, which exceeds last year's total of 79. More than 27,000 consumers attended a PGA Play Golf America Day in 2007 and received complimentary instruction from over 1000 PGA Professionals.
