
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The Golf Coaches Association of America has announced the Division I Eaton Golf Pride Regional Coaches of the Year. The nine regional coaches are also candidates for the Eaton Golf Pride Dave Williams Award, which is presented to the Division I national coach of the year.
The Eaton Golf Pride Regional Coaches of the Year include Tom Drennan of Rhode Island (New England), Longwood's Kevin Fillman (Mid-Atlantic), Allen Terrell of Coastal Carolina (South), Middle Tennessee's Johnny Moore (Southeast), Mark Crabtree of Louisville (Midwest), Tulsa's Bill Brogden (Central), Brian White of Lamar (South Central), Brigham Young's Bruce Brockbank (Southwest) and Conrad Ray of Stanford (Pacific).
In addition, Andy Bischel of UNLV has been named the recipient of the 2007 Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf.
Bischel finished his ninth season with the Rebel golf program this year, leading them to 17 wins during his career. He aids the team as an assistant coach and academic advisor. Other responsibilities include fundraising and recruiting. Bischel focuses his coaching career on building relationships with his players and supporting their decisions and goals.
"The Strickland Award is an award for putting yourself up against fellow coaches," Bischel said. "I have a lot of respect for those guys and it is such an honor to be recognized along with some of them."
Bischel resides in Las Vegas with his wife, Shannon, and two sons.
The Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award is given to the NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom. Along with the award, the recipient is allowed the opportunity to further his professional development by being a guest of TaylorMade-adidas Golf at the PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit as well as an invitation to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif.
